Avoiding simulations. Performing detailed evaluation by simulation during optimisation is not always necessary. Methods that perform several Monte-Carlo simulations per iteration are computationally very costly. They can take hours or even days to terminate. All optimisation methods can, in principle, be implemented without Monte-Carlo simulation as a subroutine. (Geometric approaches and linear programming do not use it by definition.) Several key performance indicators such as downlink coverage do not depend on network simulation results.
